How do I get a library card?
Residents of Mont Vernon and those individuals who work in town are entitled to have a library card at no cost. Out-of-town patrons may purchase a card for $15 per year. We have a short application form for new patrons to fill out. You may choose to have a card for one individual or the entire family. Children may have their own card once they can clearly print their name and must have a parent’s signature on the application.
How long are items checked out for?
All printed materials circulate for two weeks. This includes books and periodicals. All audio materials circulate for 2 weeks. All video materials (DVD and VHS) circulate for one week.
Do you charge for overdue items?
Yes, after a one day grace period. Overdue videos are charged at $1.00 per day up to a maximum of $5.00. All other items are charged at $.10 per day to a maximum of $3.00. Museum passes are charged a $5.00 late fee if they are not returned by the due date. Late fees are only calculated for days that the library is open. Patrons may still borrow additional materials unless overdue fines become excessive.
All materials may be left in the dropbox outside the library. The dropbox is only emptied when we first open the library. Items left later in the day will not be checked in until the following day.
Can I renew items?
Most items can be renewed. You can bring the item in, email the library or leave a phone message for the staff. If an item is on hold for another patron, we will ask that you return it.
Can I reserve items?
Yes, you may stop in, call or email us with the information and we will put your request on reserve status. A staff member will phone you when the item is available.
What if I lose or destroy something?
Please tell us as soon as you can. If you have just misplaced it, it generally turns up and we are happy to wait a little while to see if it resurfaces. If the item is lost, damaged or destroyed, we will ask you to reimburse the Library for the full cover price of that item.
Do you have local history and genealogy information?
We have several resources on local history and genealogy. Most of these volumes need to be used in the Library.
How can I make donations or a gift to the library?
The library is always grateful to accept cash donations. These funds are used to buy materials and equipment for the library. Book and other material donations are reviewed on a per title basis. The Friends of the Library will accept books in April for their annual May book sale.
